SurgeryWhat is a Composix Kugel Mesh Patch?

A Composix Lamictal Kugel Mesh patch is a synthetic medical product. The patch consists of two lawyers of mesh, surrounded by a flexible plastic "memory-recoil ring."

The patch is designed to be implanted, or inserted, at the location of a hernia. Once inserted, the ring is supposed to spring into place, causing the hernia to heal and grow around the patch.

Who is the manufacturer of Kugel Mesh Patch?

The patch is manufactured by Davol, Inc., a subsidiary of C.R. Bard, Inc. The company is headquartered in Murray Hill, New Jersey.

What is the problem with the defective Kugel Mesh Patch?

Problems began to be noticed in 2002. Since that time, the United States Food & Drug Administration has received numerous complaints about problems with the patch. These claims have involved broken rings, resulting in abdominal pain, fever, and tenderness at the surgical site. Some injuries have required additional surgery. In 2005, the FDA ordered the recall of some of the patch products.
